I discovered RPG Maker thanks to a magazine with a CD-ROM at the bus station during a trip to the second city on the route, in issue number 38 of Top Games Special published by Digerati. However, I couldn't use the software on my old PC, both RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker XP, so I just had fun with the 70 games that came on the CD-ROM.
After many years, with a better PC and having forgotten about the Magazine/RPG Maker, a friend showed me Chars XP, a Character generator with RTP XP style. While looking for more about the subject, I discovered Vila Makers, a Brazilian community that had some utilities and resources available on its downloads page to assist in RPG Maker creations; I just peeked around and downloaded stuff. π
I only entered the "RPG Maker" environment in 2010. I was known as "Vash" (yes, the protagonist of TRIGUN) in the Brazilian Makers Communities at the beginning of the same year and even created a blog (Vash Maker) to publish my works. From the communities, I witnessed them fall and rise again, fall again even after resurfacing with different names, and even the friends and companions I acquired over the years disappeared.
Initially, it became a hobby because, analyzing everything I did, from projects that didn't go forward (lost with the hard drive), to those of various teams I participated in that also didn't go forward, to series or package projects that didn't quite work out, I always did it all for fun without intending to profit or pursue a career in game development.
But even though I didn't intend to professionalize, I managed to learn and improve my skills in the communities I frequented, the ones I remember are:
SantuΓ‘rio RPG Maker (later became Arena Livre);
Mundo RPG Maker;
Condado Braveheart (formerly Vila Makers);
Grandes Makers;
Reino RPG (later became Red Potion);
Dungeon Makers;
Centro RPG Maker.
The last one was the one I felt most attached to because of the time I spent there.
So, I decided to return to the scene with my Pixel Art and I want to release new materials and maybe update the old ones improving their art and start over with new projects because I still like this "environment," even though it seems very stagnant.
